Using Our Website

Please look over our website. We've added a login feature which will allow us to post information available only to authorized users. We invite Stony Run members and attenders to register on the site. Here's how:

  1. At the top of this page, click "Register Now" and create an account for yourself by entering a username and password.
  2. Within a few minutes you'll receive a confirmation email with a web link to click which will activate your account. At this point you will have a restricted account which will let you do some things but not others.
  3. Within a few days the (volunteer) website administrator will grant you additional rights and notify you via email.

You'll then be able to log into the site and view, among other things, the online directory of names, addresses, and phone numbers! If you have any troubles with the registration process, please email webmaster@stonyrunfriends.org.

Food for Thought

"Christ, who had enlightened me, gave me His light to believe in…John bore witness to the light of Christ; the great heavenly prophet hath enlightened every man who cometh into the world withal; that they may believe in it, become the children of the light, and  so have the light."

George Fox's Journal

What's New at Stony Run

Please spread the word that Stony Run is looking for a new Meeting Coordinator. Pass along the job description if you know of someone who might be interested in the position.

SINC FIRST DAY FORUMS DURING JANUARY (in the Dining Room):
Coffee/tea and bagels are available at 9:00 am; forums begin at 9:15 and continue until 10:30.
February 7 – FCNL Priorities
Come and offer your advice on what the Quaker lobby in Washington should focus on for the coming two years.  A unique feature of Friends Committee on National Legislation is the practice of involving as many Quakers as possible in shaping these priorities.  Your participation makes a difference!  Flyers about FCNL's current priorities and the priority-setting process are available on the literature table in the upstairs hallway beginning on Jan 31; please review these materials in advance if you can.  If you cannot attend this forum, you can still participate in the process at http://www.fcnl.org/priorities.
February 14 – Honor the Spirit Within
Is this the same as "Love Your Neighbor as Yourself?"  Join the Newcomers and Welcoming Working Group in a lively discussion of two basic Quaker concepts:  Continuing Revelation and That of God Within.  Newcomers to Quakerism are specially invited.  Discussion will focus on chapters 4 and 6 from Marsha Holliday's Exploring Quakerism, and copies of these chapters will be available on the literature table beginning on Feb. 7.  If you have questions, call Marjorie Bates.
February 21 – No forum (Committee Day)
February 28 – Membership Celebration Breakfast
Speakers will focus on the journey and gifts of membership, sharing their stories as new or seasoned members of our Meeting.  To assist with planning, please RSVP to Phil Fratesi or any member of the Community, Care and Clearness (CCC) committee.

BYM’S QUAKER LEADERSHIP TRAINING:  Hosted by Bethesda Monthly Meeting, on Saturday, February 20, from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm.  This program will be led by Arthur Larrabee of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting.  All Baltimore Yearly Meeting members are invited, with a particular focus on those serving as clerks of committees or Meetings.  The cost is $40, and nurture funds from Stony Run are available to cover part or all of that cost.  Lunch will be provided.  Please see the flyer on the lecterns in the hall.

Please plan ahead and MARK THE DATE OF FEBRUARY 28 FOR CELEBRATING THE MEMBERSHIP BREAKFAST.  Previously known as the Attenders Breakfast, we have changed the name to reflect that this time together recognizes and honors all of us who are Members and Attenders here at Stony Run.  As in previous years, the program will focus on the journey and gifts of membership as we hear the stories of both new and seasoned members of our Meeting.

SOCIAL ORDER BOX RECIPIENT FOR FEBRUARY IS MEDSHARE:  MedShare is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the environment and healthcare through the efficient recovery and redistribution of surplus medical supplies and equipment to underserved healthcare facilities in developing countries.  MedShare collects surplus medical supplies and equipment from hospitals, medical distribution companies and individuals, and then redistributes them to qualified healthcare facilities in the developing world.  MedShare also outfits medical missions and safety net clinics in both the U.S. and abroad.

MedShare has already sent 10 shipments of approximately 10,000 boxes of requested medical supplies to organizations on the ground in Haiti.  Medical mission teams going to Haiti can collect free medical supplies from the MedTeam Store.  So far, MedShare has outfitted 22 medical teams going to Haiti with medical supplies.  John and Carey Cezar highly recommend support of this organization.

TO HELP HAITI, the Peace & Social Order committee recommends contributing to Friends of Haiti of Green Bay, MedShare, and Doctors Without Borders.

THE AMERICAN FRIENDS SERVICE COMMITTEE’S ASSESSMENT TEAM IN HAITI reports that while the situation is calm, needs are great.  Many in Haiti are now homeless, living in temporary camps or sleeping in the streets.  In Haiti, AFSC has granted $50,000 to provide 10,000 meals for 100 days and another $50,000 to transport medical supplies and provide emergency shelter materials for medical teams.  The Service Committee is thankful for the generous contributions from thousands of Friends and others and is in the process of determining a longer-term plan that supports a Haitian-led recovery.  For more information, please see www.afsc.org/haiti.
