The book "Four Feet, Two Sandals" was inspired by a refugee girl who asked the authors why there were no books about children like her.
When relief workers bring used clothing to the refugee camp, everyone scrambles to grab whatever they can. Ten-year-old Lina is thrilled when she finds a sandal that fits her foot perfectly, until she sees that another girl has the matching shoe.

Author Karen Lynn Williams has published a dozen more colorful and sensitive stories that pass the "Read it again!" test. She will be speaking this Thursday evening, October 18, at the Peace Study Center.

"Galimoto" When seven-year-old Kondi decides to fashion a galimoto (African push-toy made of wires and sticks), his older brother is convinced that a small boy should not undertake such a difficult project. Besides, the elder brother reminds him, Kondi does not have enough of the precious wire to make a toy.
